Back in the day, I sported a pretty severe flattop. In fact, when my barber cut my hair, he used a spirit level to get the top exactly flat.
Time, tide and dying follicles did in my flattop, so for about the past 15 years I've been making do with a generic crewcut. Not many barbers can deal with a flattop, anyway, so it wasn't that big a deal.
Mike's Barbershop in Edison Park can do any kind of manly haircut, so today I figured what the heck and asked Mike if there was any hope that I could once again pull off a Howie Long-style flattop. Well, no, he said, but he could sort of give me a short, faux flattop.
I like the result, but it's sure no Howie haircut. Actually, you can't really see the faux-flattop effect in the photo of me, so I don't even know why I'm bothering with this post at all.
